To see ourselves as others see us...
Nick Terry reviewing The Devin Townsend Band's Synchestra in the new issue of Decibel:
"Apologies to any of our readers in Vancouver, but whatever they put in the water up there, you guys are fucked."
After watching our city's contribution to the Turin Olympics closing ceremonies, I couldn't agree more. That was supremely embarrassing.
BTW, Terry gave the record an 8/10, calling it "the perfect '80s Rush album."

A city that has the Olympics is a world class city

If you're thinking of Signals and GUP as '80s Rush, then for sure it's a compliment!
However, if a critic said, "This album is a slight improvement on Hold Your Fire," I would not consider it a compliment.
Mule, your reaction to that 8 minute 2010 piece in Turin seems to be pretty widespread. I watched about 3 seconds of it before fleeing the television in agony. I think a Rush performance of 'By-tor and the Snow Dog,' with the battle re-enacted by Cirque du Soleil, would have been a better use of time.
Phew, it wasn't just me then re: the closing ceremonies. I had visions of Spinal Tap sketching their Stonehenge on a napkin when that Inukshuk (sp?) was being erected.
An idea:
Closing ceremonies 2010
with all of the green ski slopes in the background 21TR plays "wishing machine" while hundreds of simulated automobiles idle one a "twinned" bridge.
